NEWS ARCHIVE FOR SEASON 2014-2015 (For previous archives click on the seasons in the left column)   NEW KIT PRESENTED Wednesday 6th August..........Today Keith Weston the Site manager of the Westlands Leisure Complex presented Sports chairman Phil Wells with the new first team kit for the coming season. This marks a bit of a milestone in the club's history with the football club returning 'home' to Westlands after several years absence. We are delighted to receive this sponsorship and look forward to the future in partnership.     BLAST FROM THE PAST Monday 30th June...........I have just been given an old Portland United programme which may be of interest to some of our more senior supporters. It is dated 6th September 1985 and on that day Portland played host to Westland Sports at Grove Corner. This was the 'old' Grove Corner as opposed to the present one which bears the same name. It was just up the road from the present ground but was consumed by the quarry ! It was a Dorset Combination League match (as the DPL was known then) and Westlands fielded the following side:- I.Nairn, E.Carvill, G.Muir, A.Cottle, R.Russell, C.Isaac, C.Sayers, K.Mahan, S.Hall, M.Middleditch, N.Mitchell. There was only one substitute allowed in those days and Sports manager, Ken Lees, who had injury problems in the squad that day, named himself as 12th man. The programme also notes that Westland's new signing from Sturminster Newton, Wayne Woollard, was suspended and missed the match. I have no idea of the result of the game, perhaps someone can supply that information, but I know that Westlands finished in a respectable 7th place at the end of the season so perhaps they got a result at Portland ?
